NDC – Transforming a Legacy Projection System into a Future-Ready AV Collaboration Space
Client: National Decommissioning Centre
Project Scope: Display replacement and full AV ecosystem upgrade
Overview:
The National Decommissioning Centre (NDC) recently completed an AV system upgrade for collaboration spaces to support modern presentation, engagement, and hybrid working requirements. The existing projection-based environment had served the organisation well, but evolving use cases created an opportunity to introduce a more flexible, high-impact, and future-ready solution.
To support evolving collaboration, presentation, and hybrid engagement requirements, NDC partnered with AXV to design and deliver a modern, reliable, and scalable AV solution.

Objectives:
- Replace the multi-projector stitched display with a single, high-resolution interactive solution.
- Resolve touchscreen usability issues and improve collaboration workflows.
- Modernise the entire AV ecosystem, including audio, video, control, and switching.
- Enable flexible presentation, streaming, and recording capabilities to support multiple use cases.
Solutions Provided:
- Display & Interaction Upgrade:
- Removed the legacy projector-based widescreen system and replaced it with a 4K 162” Leyard LED touchscreen video wall.
- Delivered a seamless display with consistent brightness, clarity, and fully reliable touch performance.
- Leveraged the display’s built-in operating system, reducing reliance on external hardware and simplifying day-to-day operation.
- Removed the legacy projector-based widescreen system and replaced it with a 4K 162” Leyard LED touchscreen video wall.
- AV Ecosystem & Control:
- Designed and deployed a new Q-Sys ecosystem, acting as the backbone for audio, video, and control.
- Integrated upgraded microphones, speakers, PTZ cameras, touch control panels, and a vision mixer into a single cohesive platform.
- Enabled intuitive control of inputs, audio sources, camera angles, and display layouts from centralised touch panels.
- Designed and deployed a new Q-Sys ecosystem, acting as the backbone for audio, video, and control.
- Flexible Presentation & Content Management:
- Configured the system to support multiple simultaneous inputs, allowing different content sources to be displayed at the same time.
- Enabled presenters to seamlessly switch between layouts, inputs, microphones, and camera views depending on the scenario.
- Delivered the ability to present locally while simultaneously streaming to remote participants, as well as record sessions for later playback.
- Configured the system to support multiple simultaneous inputs, allowing different content sources to be displayed at the same time.
- Collaborative Design Process:
- AXV worked closely with NDC stakeholders to fully understand their operational requirements, use cases, and pain points.
- The final solution was tailored specifically to exceed expectations, ensuring long-term usability and adaptability rather than a like-for-like replacement.
- AXV worked closely with NDC stakeholders to fully understand their operational requirements, use cases, and pain points.
Outcome & Benefits:
- A fully reliable, high-impact 162” 4K LED touchscreen that eliminates image stitching issues and restores confidence in interactive use.
- A modern, scalable AV infrastructure that supports collaboration, hybrid meetings, live streaming, and recording.
- Significantly improved user experience through intuitive control, fast switching, and flexible content layouts.
- A future-ready system that can evolve alongside NDC’s needs without reliance on obsolete technology.
Conclusion:
AXV’s upgrade of the National Decommissioning Centre’s AV environment has created a robust, future-ready collaboration space built around real-world use cases. By introducing a state-of-the-art LED touchscreen and a fully integrated Q-Sys ecosystem, NDC is now equipped with a flexible and reliable platform that supports engaging presentations, effective collaboration, and hybrid connectivity – both now and into the future.
